Erik ten Hag true Man Utd sacking cost revealed as financial figures released

Manchester United were forced to stump up a whopping £14.5million to get rid of flop boss Erik ten Hag and Dan Ashworth.

The crisis-hit Old Trafford club published their financial figures for the final three months of 2024 on Wednesday. And the shocking amount to sack Ten Hag, his backroom staff and sporting director Ashworth has been revealed. Ten Hag landed a new contract in the summer after leading the Red Devils to a shock FA Cup triumph over rivals Man City. But the Dutchman was handed his jotters just four months later after a disastrous start to the campaign.

Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel all followed the ex-Ajax boss out of the door and were handed pay-offs of around £10.4m. Ashworth also packed his bags just five months after arriving from Newcastle United, banking a cool £4m cheque in December.

Ruud van Nistelrooy initially steadied the ship by stepping up as caretaker boss, yet despite improving results, the legendary striker was eventually moved on as Ruben Amorim took over the reins. It's also been revealed that United paid £10.4m to Sporting CP to land the highly-rated Portuguese boss.

But so far, Amorim has failed to change the Red Devils' fortunes as the fallen English giants sit 15th in the table and at risk of being dragged into a relegation dogfight.
