Erik ten Hag sends message to Manchester United fans preparing to protest for Liverpool FC fixture

Erik ten Hag has called for Manchester United to become unified as some supporters prepare to protest against the Glazer family.

United have lost both of their Premier League games this season, leaving them bottom of the table, and have been beaten in their last four fixtures, with a United player failing to score in any of them.

Several United supporters plan to protest against the Glazer family's ownership again before the visit of Liverpool on Monday night and it emerged in midweek Sir Jim Ratcliffe is interested in buying the club.

"I can only say the owners want to win and the fans, we want them behind the club," Ten Hag said. "And I can understand sometimes but I am not that long in the club to see all the backgrounds. We have to fight together and be unified."

United have not beaten Liverpool in the league since March 2018 but Liverpool have drawn their opening games of the campaign with Fulham and Crystal Palace.

Ten Hag was involved in a tribal rivalry in the Netherlands when he was Ajax coach against Feyenoord and he is familiar with United's history with Liverpool.

However, the 4-0 humiliation by Brentford was still on Ten Hag's mind as he lamented the lack of a "fighting attitude" from the players last week.

"I think I made myself clear I was definitely not happy," he explained. "You can talk about football, you can talk about the plan, the philosophy, but it starts with the basic stuff and it has to be the right attitude, you need a fighting spirit on the pitch and I didn't see that from minute one.
