Erik ten Hag says major Wolves change will not impact Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has challenged Manchester United's players to ensure they build on the foundations laid last season.

United finished third in Ten Hag's debut season at Old Trafford, winning the Carabao Cup in the process. They also reached the FA Cup final and secured a return to the UEFA Champions League.

They start their Premier League season at home to Wolves on Monday night hoping for further improvement. Ten Hag wants his side to continue developing their philosophy.

"First of all, we have to keep the foundation," Ten Hag told MUTV. "It is not normal that you have a first season like last season, [when the home stadium is] like a fortress.

"With all the fights we were in, we have to go again. We will put 100 per cent effort in every game and every training session. We are ready for the fight. We are so excited for the fight. That's good."

Ten Hag will be up against Gary O'Neill in the Wolves dugout, having been appointed only last week. Julen Lopetegui walked away from the club after disagreements over the transfer budget. Ten Hag admitted there will be unknowns as a result but is more focused on what United do, rather than the opponent.

"You don't know, it's like a dark room! You can't tell," he said. "It's about us. I am not interested, I respect every opponent and we know everything from our opponent, but it is about us and how we play against this opponent."
