Erik ten Hag's key transfer target Antony makes decision on his future

Ajax star Antony is reportedly ready to leave the club and could reunite with manager Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

On Thursday, United officially confirmed that Ten Hag is set to take the reins at Old Trafford at the end of the season, and speculation about which players the Dutchman wants to sign is already rife.

There have already been reports that Ten Hag is keen on bringing some of his current Ajax stars with him to England, with Brazilian winger Antony top of the list.

And now, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf has claimed that the 22-year-old wants ‘to take the next step in his career’, fearing that he might get left behind with so many other players set to depart the club in the summer.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana’s free transfer to Inter Milan has already been confirmed, while right-back Noussair Mazraoui looks set to join Bayern Munich, with midfielder Ryan Gravenberch also linked with the German giants.

‘It is clear that it has sometimes been quieter at the Amsterdam club. The transfer issues are distracting. Although Ten Hag believes that everyone has one hundred per cent focus on the title fight [with PSV],’ the paper also claimed.

Antony moved to Ajax in 2020 and has already established himself as one of the best young wingers in the game, with 42 goal contributions in 79 appearances for the club at the time of writing.

As well as a reuniting with Antony, Ten Hag is also eyeing a move for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez and PSV winger Cody Gakpo, who is also wanted by Arsenal.

However, it has also been reported that United chiefs are concerned about signing players from the Eredivisie, given how previous purchases from the league, namely Memphis Depay and Donny van de Beek, both struggled at Old Trafford.
