Erik ten Hag reveals Sir Alex Ferguson hope ahead of Manchester United vs Newcastle

Erik ten Hag believes the legacy of winning left by Sir Alex Ferguson has set the example for his squad ahead of this afternoon's Carabao Cup final.

United face Newcastle United at Wembley for a chance to end their trophy drought. Ten Hag vowed upon his arrival last year to bring silverware back to M16, following a six-year barren spell, and the Dutchman can do so at the first time of asking with a win in London.

In the build-up to the clash, Ten Hag met up for dinner with United legend Ferguson and the pair have been in constant dialogue throughout the former's tenure. But when asked about the best message he has received from his predecessor, the Dutchman insisted his actions have set the example, rather than his words.

Ten Hag told Sky Sports: "I think he left a legacy and that is Manchester United stands for winning and a winning culture. I think he's such a great example for all of us, for humanity, but for all of us around and in Manchester United, he's such a big example and we hope that we can make him proud on Sunday."
