Erik ten Hag names one thing Manchester United must have to beat Bayern Munich

Erik ten Hag believes the Manchester United fans can be their secret weapon if they are to have any chance of beating Bayern Munich and remaining in the Champions League.

United must win against the Bundesliga champions tonight to have any hope of staying in the competition, and even then, it will only be enough if Copenhagen draw with Galatasaray in the other match.

A lot needs to go United's way if they are to keep the dream alive, but Ten Hag is eager for his side to do their part at the very least and go down fighting.

BUILD-UP: United did not look like a crisis club ahead of Bayern Munich tie

TEAM NEWS: How United should line up tonight

The United manager will be looking to draw inspiration from a thoroughly deserved win over Chelsea a week ago and he also believes that the Old Trafford crowd holds the key to helping them reach those levels again.

"I think we can take our belief from the game against Chelsea," he told official club media. "We know also what happened at the weekend but we want to go back to those levels against Chelsea.

"When we do that - when we have the right spirit and mood, when we have that strong belief, I am sure the fans will be behind us. They will energise us, they will support us and we will come to a high level. That is necessary if you are to beat Bayern Munich."

United have scored 12 goals in the Champions League so far, yet have only won one match in the process. Another high-scoring affair could be on the cards tonight and Ten Hag is confident his side can continue their fine scoring run.

He added: "It is a very attractive team, Bayern Munich, but as you say, especially in the Champions League but also in other games, [against] Chelsea [for example], we created so many chances.
