Erik ten Hag names areas Manchester United players must still improve in

Erik ten Hag has said there is still plenty of room for improvement in several areas at Manchester United, despite the team winning four games on the bounce.

United started the season with two humiliating defeats by Brighton and Brentford, but Ten Hag has remarkably inspired a turnaround with his side bouncing back to take 12 points from Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal.

Although some of those performances were not convincing, United were deserving winners and they have demonstrated a newfound team spirit, which has seen Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez develop a strong relationship in the centre of defence.

Ten Hag, speaking ahead of the Reds' match against Real Sociedad on Thursday night, was asked about United's results and he insisted to club media that the best was yet to come from his team, who are clearly improving each week.

"There is still a lot to work on," Ten Hag said. "You see that in the games and the results are good because we are hard to beat in this moment and we must keep that going. That attitude as a team and supporting each other is really important to be successful.

"But of course when you see the games you can see we can improve a lot still in all moments – possession, building up play into attack and into the final third, from the transition, defending the pressing… there is still a lot to do.

"But from game to game we will improve, I’m sure of that. It’s always good for the development of the team to face different systems and styles and to find answers and solutions. We come into Europe now and into the next phase of the season.

"It will help us as a team and we will get better from it and improve."
