Erik ten Hag must convince Benjamin Sesko to ditch transfer plans to seal Manchester United move

It seems Benjamin Sesko has made a significant impression on Manchester United fans - and the club itself.

Supporters went wild when he netted the winner in a pre-season friendly with Liverpool this week and the Manchester Evening News understands that United officials have made contact with his representative.

John Murtough spoke to agent Elvis Basanovic about the possibility of a transfer, with the Slovenian contracted to RB Salzburg until 2026. The 19-year-old netted 10 times last term and has scored two goals in as many games this campaign, with the Austrian season already underway.

The striker boasts an eye for goal and possesses driving pace, which have caused him to be likened to new Manchester City signing Erling Haaland. Basanovic claims he can reach speeds up to 22 miles-per-hour, the player showing his acceleration in the Liverpool win.

Erik ten Hag wishes to bring in an attacking reinforcement this summer, and it seems Sesko has caught his eye. However, a purchase may not be straightforward.

Salzburg reportedly value him at £55m, and back in October, Basanovic outlined that the plan is to keep his client at his employers for possibly another few seasons.

Speaking to AS, he said: "I think it's normal for the best clubs to follow the best talents and I think he is one of the best talents in the world at his age. But as I said before, he is just starting his career and we are going step by step.

“Talent is not enough to make a great career and right now he has everything he needs to progress at Red Bull Salzburg. I think he will stay here for the next two or three years. We don't need to rush for anything."
