Erik ten Hag may not be granted one Manchester United transfer wish this summer

As we enter the final stages of the 2023 summer transfer window, Manchester United are still on the hunt for improvements to their squad.

The recent injury crisis at left-back has made the position a priority for United. With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia expected to have extended spells on the sidelines, solving this problem is a wise strategy.

It is also a clever idea to bring in a back-up goalkeeper with Dean Henderson's departure to Crystal Palace on the brink of being confirmed. Altay Bayindir looks to be the player to fill this gap and once more it is comforting to see United working quickly to solve potential problem areas.

Unfortunately, Erik ten Hag looks like he will not be able to tick one other signing off his wishlist. Earlier this summer, MEN Sport reported how the United boss was hopeful of signing two strikers in the transfer window.

In Rasmus Hojlund, United have managed to bring in one out-and-out No.9 but another looks set to allude them. While one is better than nothing, the Reds could find themselves with problems over the course of the season.

Anthony Martial returned to the starting XI on Saturday and showed why his future looks set to be away from Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford has been trialed in the centre-forward position this campaign but is clearly better on the left-wing.

Jadon Sancho is a wildcard option as a false nine but can't be solely relied upon to cover if Hojlund is injured or out of sorts. Ultimately, the lack of another striker alternative could hinder United's hopes for this season.
