Erik ten Hag is about to reach deadline to save his Manchester United job

Manchester United are closing in on the deadline set by former midfielder Robbie Savage to make a decision on Erik ten Hag's future.

Savage, a former United academy player, said in October that manager Ten Hag should be given until Christmas to turn things around after a shaky start to the season. The popular TV pundit questioned some of Ten Hag's decisions, including his recruitment strategy and move to make Bruno Fernandes captain as he described the situation at the club as "a mess", partly due to a lack of a clear playing style.

The former midfielder previously praised Ten Hag for getting United into the top four and two cup finals last season, but criticised the Dutchman for performances this term. Results are still yet to consistently pick up following Savage's comments and United have crashed out of Europe entirely and are languishing in seventh in the Premier League table.

Speaking in October, Savage told Planet Sport Bet: "I went on record in saying that Erik ten Hag had done one of the best jobs in the world to get Manchester United to the top four in the Premier League and two cup finals, but there's no getting away from the fact that this season they have regressed.

"The recruitment is very confusing. They let David De Gea go and brought in Andre Onana for a big fee, they needed a centre-half and brought in 35-year-old Jonny Evans. They got [Sergio] Reguillon from Spurs to cover at left back yet they play a right-footed centre-half [Victor Lindelof] in that position against City.
