Erik ten Hag has unexpectedly given Manchester United star a permanent new position

Alejandro Garnacho was recently asked on a gaming stream which position he preferred - the left or right wing - and he intelligently responded: "being on the pitch."

Manchester United youngster Garnacho answered that question not long after playing on the right for the first time against Aston Villa at Old Trafford during the festive period.

Garnacho was outstanding that day and he single-handedly dragged United back into the game, scoring twice to level the score before Rasmus Hojlund produced the matchwinner.

"He was almost more comfortable on the left but I think he can play on the right," said Erik ten Hag. "Today, I think he was on that right side over 90 minutes an absolute threat, scored twice.

"But I think the whole frontline played very good. They invested so much in the runs behind, the timings were so good and it was continuing a threat for the opponent."

Although a disappointing loss against Nottingham Forest followed that win, the attack suddenly clicked in 2024 and Hojlund's first league goal opened the floodgates for more.

United have scored 28 goals in their last 12 games. They scored 16 goals in the 12 games before that and an attack of Marcus Rashford, Hojlund and Garnacho has been settled on.

Garnacho deserves huge credit for seamlessly adapting to the opposite side. It's understood he'd never played in that role, not even in the academy or during his time with Atletico Madrid, before facing Aston Villa and yet he's taken to his new position like a duck to water.
