Erik ten Hag has two obvious changes to make to his Manchester United line-up vs Brentford

All eyes will be on Manchester United's Twitter account an hour before kick-off at Old Trafford this evening.

It will be at 7pm when the club confirms Erik ten Hag's starting line-up for the clash with Brentford and it is almost certainly going to be an XI that generates a conversation one way or another. Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at St James' Park marked a third successive Premier League fixture without a win and without a goal, meaning frustrations are beginning to mount in M16.

Despite the Tyneside result, certainly on paper, not looking anywhere near as harrowing as the defeats suffered at Brentford (4-0), Manchester City (6-3) and Liverpool (7-0) earlier this season, the performance was just as bad. United, unlike when they faced Newcastle five weeks earlier at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final, did not appear to understand the size of the occasion and the importance of three points in the race for a top-four finish.

United were second best all over the pitch and Newcastle barely had to get out of first gear to secure a third straight win and leapfrog the Reds in the table, albeit on goal difference. Ten Hag's side were flat, lifeless and uninspiring, meaning the supporters, quite rightly, will demand a response against a Brentford side who have already made mincemeat of United once already this season.

Much of the anger and frustration that followed Sunday's defeat to Newcastle was vented at striker Wout Weghorst, although he was far from being the only one who was worthy of criticism.
