Erik ten Hag has plan for Manchester United player Facundo Pellistri after Uruguay performances

Erik ten Hag is set to give Facundo Pellistri a chance to prove his worth at Manchester United in pre-season before making a decision on his immediate future.

Pellistri, 20, has impressed on international duty with Uruguay throughout the calendar year but has struggled for playing time at club level after a poor spell with Alaves.

The right winger rejoined the La Liga side on loan last summer after a successful short-term stint in the second-half of the 2020/21 campaign. However, he only made six starts for Alaves this season, registering a measly 750 minutes of action across 23 appearances.

Despite his struggles at club level, Pellistri has been a hit at international level, making five starts for Uruguay already this calendar year. All of his senior international appearances have come on the right wing, an area of weakness for United, with Pellistri registering three assists in six outings.

The Manchester Evening News understands Pellistri will be given a chance to show new manager Ten Hag what he can do in pre-season, though another loan exit next season is not being ruled out.

It is understood the Uruguay international is eager to gain regular playing time next season and he acknowledges a loan move might help in his bid to start matches at the World Cup later this year.

United are keen to address their long-term issues on the right wing this summer, with the club wanting to sign at least one forward to offset their attacking exodus given Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba are all leaving for free.
