Erik ten Hag has already told Jadon Sancho how he can be a success at Manchester United

Jadon Sancho has been Manchester United’s standout player of pre-season with three goals in four scintillating performances.

The attacker has been predominantly used on the right flank, rather than the left, and has flourished. Many predicted the 22-year-old to find his feet under Erik ten Hag after a difficult first season and that seems to be the case right now.

He ended last term with five goals and three assists, which was a disappointing return. Gareth Southgate seemingly concurred, leaving him out of March and June’s England squads.

But he’s shown clear signs that he can rediscover his Bundesliga class already this summer. That said, disciplinarian Ten Hag has already told Sancho that he must not take his eye off the ball.

Speaking to the press earlier this week he outlined what the winger needs to do to be a success under his tutelage. "I have nothing [but] high expectations [of Sancho].

“I look to the player and I have a certain demand. And I will tell them, if they have capabilities, but you have to invest.

“It is not just in terms of Jadon, it is for every player. I will tell every player what I expect of them.

“I have high standards because you are here, you are playing for Manchester United, then you must bring every day on the pitch. That is an expectation I have."

It’s a clear message that Sancho and his teammates must put in 100 per cent effort each training session and game or risk the wrath of their boss — an ultimatum that was evidently absent last season, despite the best efforts of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
