Erik ten Hag handed another Manchester United worry for crucial Brentford clash

Premier League official Sam Barrott has been appointed as the referee for Manchester United's home clash with Brentford on Saturday despite being responsible for a few high profile errors already this season.

Barrott was the man in the middle back in August when he incorrectly adjudged that Will Hughes had fouled a Brentford player prior to Eberechi Eze scoring a quick free kick for Crystal Palace. Due to the timing of his whistle, VAR was unable to intervene as the ball had not yet crossed the line so the on-field decision was maintained.

Eze later told Sky Sports that Barrott had apologised to him for the mistake. Fast forward to September and Barrott found himself in hot water again following Arsenal's clash with Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.

The Foxes manager Steve Cooper felt aggrieved that Jamie Vardy was not awarded a foul in the build-up to the Gunners' first goal and that Riccardo Calafiori was not shown a second yellow card for what appeared to be an obvious foul. Barrott was subsequently dropped from the matchday officials list the following week before making his return.

Worrying about what decisions the referee may make on Saturday is the last thing Erik ten Hag will want to be thinking about on what could be a pivotal afternoon for his United career. During the international break, the Dutchman's future at United was a source of heavy speculation as the Reds made their worst possible start to a Premier League campaign ever.

Ten Hag appears to have kept hold of his job for now but there is still plenty of pressure on his shoulders heading into the next round of Premier League
