Erik ten Hag facing new Manchester United squad challenge next season

Manchester United know their Premier League schedule for the upcoming campaign as Erik ten Hag hopes for another successful campaign in charge.

United begin their season at Old Trafford on Monday, August 14, when Wolves make the trip to M16. It kicks off a 38-match top-flight campaign.

Ten Hag's side will be aiming to build upon the third-place finish achieved in the recently concluded campaign. By finishing in the top four, United of course sealed the return of Champions League football to Old Trafford.

United were in the Europa League last season and are used to having fixtures moved both for TV coverage and also European competition to leave sufficient time between matches. It will be something United experience again next season.

But by going into Europe's elite club competition, the level of opposition will go up a notch. A group last season in the Europa League contested by United included Real Sociedad, Sheriff Tiraspol of Romania, and Cypriot side Omonia.

In pot one alone of this season's Champions League United will face either Sevilla, Barcelona, Napoli, Bayern Munich, PSG, Benfica or Feyenoord. All will be a clear step-up from last campaign's Europa League group stage.

With being back in the Champions League, Ten Hag and the squad will face a different challenge compared to last season. The United boss will no doubt be wary of rotating his side too much for European competition with an eye on the upcoming Premier League fixtures for their six group stage matches.
