Erik ten Hag faces his own Aubameyang decision with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United

Manchester United need to make a firm decision over Cristiano Ronaldo's future - and Erik ten Hag must be the one to make it.

The future of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has been hotly debated all summer. With just over two weeks left to go in the transfer window, time is running out for United to conclusively decide what they want to do with their seemingly 'wantaway' striker.

After Ten Hag's attempt to play Christian Eriksen as a false nine against Brighton backfired, he decided to give the fans what they wanted and play Ronaldo as a striker from the outset against Brentford. However, as we all know, that did not go to plan either and the humiliating defeat will see the Dutchman go back to the training ground once again to find a solution to United's woeful start.

After the full-time whistle, most of the players made their way to the away end to clap their fans for their support - but not all of them. No sooner had the whistle gone then Ronaldo had made a beeline for the tunnel as he looked to get off the pitch as quickly as possible.

It is of course natural for a player of his pedigree to be upset with such a disappointing result. Yet in this instance, the 37-year-old played his part in the defeat - he is after all part of the team, and someone who has won five Ballon d'Ors will know that individual success is nothing without the team around you.

This now leaves Ten Hag with an uncomfortable decision, and one that he no doubt would not have wanted to make this early during his time at United. Do you keep Ronaldo and risk the player upsetting the apple cart by not buying in to the new ethos - or do you risk the backlash
