Erik ten Hag eyes Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong and more Manchester United transfer rumours

Erik ten Hag is pushing for a reunion with Frenkie de Jong at Manchester United - according to reports. Ten Hag is primed and ready to take over at Old Trafford after his appointment was confirmed on Thursday morning.

Attentions have quickly turned to potential signings as Sport claim Ten Hag will be given a transfer budget of around £250million for next season. However, outgoings must be taken into account, too.

That same report also suggests the new United manager has earmarked De Jong as a priority target. Of course, he was coached by Ten Hag at Ajax before his high-profile switch to Spanish giants Barcelona in 2019.

A fee around the £72million mark has been mooted. De Jong progressed through the famed Ajax system and since his move to the Nou Camp has made 135 appearances in all competitions.

However, with his former coach and mentor eager to bolster the United midfield, De Jong has emerged as a reported contender to replace Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic when they leave at the end of this season.

Elsewhere, the Premier League giants are reportedly set to step up their interest in Brazilian forward Antony. The Times credit United with a strong interest in an Ajax player who currently plays under Ten Hag.

Antony has several top clubs on red alert and has provided 22 direct goal contributions this season. He can operate on either flank and is currently valued at around £31.5million.

However, potential suitors might have to pay more than market price with him having three years left to run on his contract in Amsterdam. Antony joined Ajax from Sau Paulo for £14.18million in 2019.
