Erik ten Hag comments explain why he wants to sign Harry Kane for Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has reiterated his desire to sign a striker this summer and detailed the profile of the player he wants to add to his Manchester United side.

The Manchester Evening News revealed last month that Harry Kane is Ten Hag's preferred addition to the squad at the end of the season.

Sources say the United manager is intent on signing Tottenham's talisman as he approaches the final year of his contract, but there is an acceptance that it will be difficult to convince Daniel Levy to sell to a domestic rival.

United are keeping tabs on Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani and Atalanta goalscorer Rasmus Hojlund should they be priced out of a move for Kane, while Napoli striker Victor Osimhen remains of interest and Ten Hag is also an admirer of Benfica frontman Goncalo Ramos and Mohammed Kudus of Ajax.

Ten Hag has been asked about his plans to sign a striker once again, and has this time explained exactly what he'll look for when deciding on who to add to his side.

The United manager not only wants a lethal goalscorer, but he also wants a player who will also contribute to the link-up play, something that Kane is noted for himself.

"Everyone is different, obviously, but for a striker the main thing is to score goals by any method, that is so far ahead of anything else," Ten Hag explained to Sky Sports.

"We need a striker who scores goals because we have ability in the team to put balls in the box, so we need a striker to finish.

"We have to build a new future and we need a striker who not only scores goals but contributes by linking up play very well and pressing, which is very important."
