Erik ten Hag can ensure Anthony gives Manchester United exactly what they want from him

Antony has endured a rollercoaster first season at Manchester United since making the summer switch from Ajax.

In his first three Premier League matches, the Brazilian burst onto the scene with three goals - against Arsenal, Manchester City and Everton. Little did he know after the Goodison Park strike in October that he would have to wait until April for his fourth.

While his tap in just after the half hour mark will not win any prizes for goal of the season, the 23-year-old's overall display against Nottingham Forest was exactly what United want from Antony. It prompted United boss Erik ten Hag to revisit previous comparisons to Arjen Robben.

"First, I know he can also use his right (foot), he has to do it more," Ten Hag said at the City Ground on Sunday. "But the second, I think there was in the week (against Sevilla), he can also go outside. But he is so good on the inside. So I've seen, for instance, Arjen Robben a lot. They say he had only one trick but that one trick was so brilliant no one can stop it.

"We have to emphasise, of course, if you can go both ways you have more variations, you are more difficult to stop. But to improve the trick you are really good at, his first yards with the ball as he dribbles are so outstanding I think they're so difficult to defend. So he has to keep doing that."

The Dutchman's words in the East Midlands echoed his sentiments a year ago in Amsterdam. "I find it difficult to compare players because they all have their own identity," Ten Hag told ESPN.
