'Epitomised Newcastle's remarkable season' - Journalist praises 'impressive' NUFC ace's form

Journalist Dominic Scurr has sent a message of congratulations to Joelinton after being named Newcastle United’s Player of the Season.

In what has been a remarkable turn of events, Joelinton has gone from being a £40m flop of a striker who could barely get a shot on target – during his first two seasons on Tyneside, he managed to get just 34 of his 97 shots on target as a striker (FBRef) – before more recently evolving into a regular central midfielder.

Joelinton has been duly rewarded for his efforts in a black and white shirt this season by picking up a Player of the Month award as well as now being named as the club’s Player of the Season, beating the likes of Callum Wilson, Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes to the award.

Scurr tweeted out a message of congratulations following the news, saying: “Well deserved. The most impressive turnaround of any NUFC player in recent memory. Has epitomised Newcastle’s remarkable season.”

TIF Thoughts on Joelinton…

The fact that Joelinton was only thrust into this newfound midfield role under Eddie Howe as a result of a Ciaran Clark red card is quite amazing, as he’s thriving despite only ever playing in an attacking role during his career.

Going from a flop in the final third to now looking almost undroppable whenever fit is testament to Howe’s coaching and the mentality that Joelinton possesses to never give up and being determined to make it work in the Premier League on Tyneside.
