Enugu Rangers looking beyond Zilimadjou, Ugwueze boasts

Enugu Rangers’ Captain Chinemerem Ugwueze, has assured fans of the “Flying Antelope” that his side will beat Zilimadjou in today’s second leg of their CAF Champions League first round qualifier in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Although he is not writing off the team from the Comoros Island, Ugwueze said Rangers have been prepared to sail over the Islanders, whom they beat 1-0 in the away leg of the tie also played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, last week.

Zilimadjou elected to play their home and away legs of the tie in Uyo when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ruled that Comoros has no stadium good enough for international football.

Speaking on the game, Ugwueze said that Rangers went back to work immediately after the first leg, adding that they are in the best possible shape to do the nation proud and qualify for the next round of the competition.

“Since the end of the first leg that we won by God’s special grace, we have shifted our preparation gear to the next level, which I believe will see us through the second leg.

“Yes, we won the first leg, but we are not underrating our opponents. Rather, we are more focused and determined to play a good game and win well for our teaming fans and supporters,” stated the midfielder.

Frank Uwumiro, who scored the winning goal in the first leg, echoed his captain’s optimism. He said that the first leg was difficult at some point but having seen how the team from Comoros Islands play, Rangers are better prepared going into today’s second leg fixture.

“Our opponents are the champions of their country and they showed some stuff in the first leg but with what we have been going through after that encounter, I am sure of a good second leg which we are hosting,” said Uwumiro.
