English-Spanish families torn as they brace for Euro 2024 final

Anglo-Spanish couples are bracing themselves for a "tense" yet "fun" atmosphere in their homes during the Euro 2024 final. The showdown between England and Spain is set to take place this Sunday in Berlin.

And for those living in Anglo-Spanish households, the excitement is palpable. Rebecca Garcia, 40, an English woman, and her Spanish husband Eugenio, 38, will be tuning into the match with their young daughters Alba, five, and Eva, three.

Eugenio, a structural engineer, anticipates a mix of emotions in their Penge, south London home come Sunday. "I think I'll be more tense and nervous and (Mrs Garcia) will probably be having some wine," he shared with the PA news agency.

Their predictions for the match's outcome also differ significantly. "I think it will end up going to penalties, which is always a really tough thing to happen to them as people, and the pressure, and then I think it will end up with England winning, but on penalties," Mrs Garcia, who works in the construction industry, told PA.

On the other hand, Mr Garcia predicted: "I think it's going to be 2-0 for Spain," adding that he expects Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams to score. Despite being a Liverpool supporter and a regular football player himself, Mr Garcia admitted he hadn't anticipated his team making it to the final.

"I think on the Spanish side, we've been the surprise of the tournament, I wasn't expecting to be in the final," he confessed. "We managed to play really good football and eliminate big teams like France, Italy, Germany, and we started as the underdog and now we are the favourite in the final.
