England vs Denmark line up 'leaked' with Phil Foden handed statement opportunity

The England camp appeared so bemused by criticism of their win against Serbia, Gareth Southgate convened a team meeting to remind players that tournament football is different to representing their clubs.

The Serbia game wasn't a good watch, but it was a win. 'Job done', as Phil Foden put it on Instagram. Another few of those results and England will be European champions.

There is undoubtedly room for improvement, and criticism among fans and pundits focussed on Foden's contribution - or lack of - against Serbia. It's been a long, tiresome five days of chatter about Foden, yet it seems the one opinion that matters is fully in support of him.

A widely-reported leaked England team suggests Southgate will stick with the same starting XI against Denmark on Thursday, keeping Foden on the left wing with freedom to drift inside. Key to Foden's impact will be Harry Kane staying further up front, and a better working relationship with Jude Bellingham.

Foden himself insists that link-up with Bellingham is getting better every day, and Southgate believes Kane will be better as the tournament progresses. On Foden, Southgate highlighted what Manchester City fans will have been shouting into the void for the last week.

“Phil did an exceptional job for us on Sunday. Other players grabbed the attention, but the way he worked for the team, defended the spaces, real intelligence in how he played," the England boss said.
