England 'lucky' to have one inclusion in best Euro 2024 XI as he's branded 'worst player'

England and Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker earned a place in the Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament – but many football fans feel he is undeserving of the accolade.

While still reeling from their defeat in Berlin on Sunday, Three Lions supporters learned on Tuesday that Gareth Southgate has now stepped down from his position as manager. The Team of the Tournament has offered little respite to England either, though, with just one under-fire player being included in it – right-back Walker.

Many England fans took aim at Walker over his apparent defensive weaknesses that some claimed cost them in big moments across Euro 2024, such as his failure to stop Marc Cucurella's cross for Spain's winner in the final and how he lost Breel Embolo in the box for Switzerland's goal against England in the quarter-finals. The Team of the Tournament features the likes of Spain stars Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, but it's the Premier League champion's inclusion that conjured derision from supporters.

Posting on X one fan said: "Kyle Walker was lucky to even remain in England's starting line-up." While a second added: "Kyle Walker? He was England’s worst player of the tournament." A third fan was particularly brutal writing: "Kyle Walker, you got to be kidding me? He was the worst right-back of the #EURO2024."

Another commented saying: "Walker? Was he picked by someone who never watched any games?" And a final one put: "Kyle Walker? Do me favour, was at fault for both goals in the final." Spain beat England 2-1 in Berlin, meaning the Three Lions have now lost two European Championship finals back to back, after they came up short against Italy at Wembley in Euro 2020.
