England: Jordan Henderson was stunned by Harry Maguire during rondo
Last summer at Euro 2020, you’d have sworn that Harry Maguire was one of the very best centre-backs in world football.
The £80 million defender was an absolute man-mountain at the back for England and was deservedly named in the Team of the Tournament for his efforts.
But in 2021/22, Maguire has looked anything but an elite-level operator. The Manchester United captain has committed so many high-profile errors this season that we’ve lost count of them all.
The former Leicester City man’s struggles resulted in many questioning whether he was even worthy of a place in England’s squad for the March international break.
Unsurprisingly, Maguire was selected by manager Gareth Southgate, although didn’t play a single minute in the Three Lions’ 2-1 friendly win over Switzerland at Wembley on Saturday.
The man himself probably wasn’t too gutted about that, as it’s allowed him to have bit of a breather ahead of the game against Ivory Coast next week – which he will almost certainly start in.
Maguire was most likely happy to return to the England camp this month after a tough season at United, however, the trip down south for international duty sadly hasn’t seen him escape criticism.
A video of the centre-back’s questionable contribution to a ‘rondo’ in training has done the rounds on social media and it’s safe to say the footage doesn’t paint him in the best light.
The reaction from Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson said it all…
Maguire
