England hooker Nic Dolly suffers nasty injury for Leicester Tigers

Leicester Tigers hooker Nic Dolly appeared to suffer a nasty injury that saw him stretchered off against Newcastle Falcons.

The incident occurred when the England international was competing for the ball at the breakdown during the first half of the Gallagher Premiership round 25 encounter at Kingston Park.

Dolly got into a good position over the ball but was rolled out by Falcons forward Adam Brocklebank.

Premiership Rugby TV initially opted against showing the footage but due to the incident needing to be checked for potential foul play. It revealed Dolly's left knee bending inward with his foot planted in the diagonal position.

Encouragingly, Dolly was not taken immediately taken away from the ground and was spotted on the sidelines for the second half.

It had echoes of Jack Willis' injury playing for England in the 2021 Six Nations when an Italian forward rolled the Wasps flanker out of a breakdown. It would be a year before he played rugby again.

Sydney-born Dolly earned his first England cap in the Autumn international against Australia and was earlier this week called up by Eddie Jones for a mini-camp in preparation for a summer tour to Australia.

It is the second time in less than 24 hours that players have suffered blows in Gallagher Premiership action. On Friday night, Wasps lock Elliott Stooke landed awkwardly claiming a high ball and BT Sport opted not to show the replays.

Wasps confirmed that the former Bath forward had suffered a fibula fracture. To read the full statement, click here.
