England 0-4 Hungary: Jamie Carragher hits out at Gareth Southgate chants

England fans turned on Gareth Southgate in their crushing defeat to Hungary on Tuesday evening.

The Three Lions suffered one of their worst defeats in their history at Molineux.

Goals from Roland Sallai (2), Zsolt Nagy and Dániel Gazdag gave the away side a convincing 4-0 victory.

England fans inside the stadium vented their displeasure during the game.

After the third goal went in, scored by Nagy in the 80th minute, the atmosphere turned extremely toxic.

England fans chanted ‘you don’t know what you’re doing!’ at Southgate. Meanwhile, players were booed.

While many inside the stadium have turned on Southgate, Jamie Carragher is one individual who is still extremely supportive of the 51-year-old.

After hearing the chants directed at Southgate, Carragher took to Twitter to send a furious tweet.

He wrote: “You don’t know what you’re doing” shut up you clowns. This manager has taken the country in two tournaments to the best positions since 1966.

He added: “Also this idea that Southgate is holding this group back is nonsense, this squad is no better than 2004/6 1996/98. Southgate has overachieved albeit with favourable draws. Rest up boys & come back to your normal level.”

Joe Cole covered the game as a pundit on Channel 4. He was also not amused at the chants directed at England’s manager.

He said, per the Daily Express: “For the fans I can understand the frustration, but you have to put some perspective on it. Gareth Southgate does know what he is doing, of course he does. He has taken this group of players and his staff have taken them to a semi-final and a final. That is the most successful manager since Alf Ramsey, now that is factual no one can argue with that.

“But tonight it was dreadful, they will get in dressing
