Enda McGinley stands down as Antrim manager after Leitrim loss
Enda McGinley has stepped down as Antrim manager after two years in charge, following their Tailteann Cup loss to Leitrim in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Antrim slumped to a five-point loss in their Tailteann Cup opener - and now closer - on Saturday and McGinley, who took over in late 2020, has now stepped aside.
The Antrim county board released a statement today, confirming the news
"The Antrim County Board can announce that Enda McGinley has stepped down as manager of our Senior Football team.
"During Enda's tenure our Senior footballers have both gained promotion to Division 3 and retained their Division 3 status for 2023.
"We would like to sincerely thank Enda, Stephen O’Neill, Sean Kelly, Stephen Quinn and all the backroom team for their efforts and we wish them all the best of luck for the future."
McGinley, a three-time All-Ireland winner with Tyrone in the 2000s, presided over promotion from Division 4 in 2021 and easily preserved Antrim's status in Division 3 in 2022, giving promotion to the second tier a strong rattle before fading away late in the campaign.
However, success of any sort eluded them in the championship, with hefty losses to Armagh and Cavan in the 2021 and 2022 Ulster campaigns respectively, and yesterday's five point defeat to Leitrim, which ended their interest in the inaugural Tailteann Cup.
