Emma Raducanu to represent Great Britain in Billie Jean King Cup

Emma Raducanu is set to represent Great Britain on her Billie Jean King Cup debut next month.

The US Open champion will join Harriet Dart, Katie Swan and Sonay Kartal in their qualifying match against the Czech Republic.

Despite being named as part of the team in the 2019 and 2020 Cup, this will be the first time Raducanu will actually take to the court and compete.

This will be a big occasion for the 19-year-old — not only will she be making her debut at such a prestigious tournament, but she is yet to test her abilities on clay surface.

She has also been dealing with a series of injuries, which have affected her performances since her historic triumph at Flushing Meadows back in September.

Since winning her first Grand Slam title, Raducanu has struggled with her form. Her best result since the US Open was at the Transylvania Open in October.

Competing on the native soil of her father, the Brit had hoped for an iconic run in Romania to face childhood idol Simona Halep, but a quarter-final loss to Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk saw her exit the competition.

Raducanu has the perfect opportunity to re-establish herself on the court and help Great Britain get off to a strong start in the Billie Jean King Cup.

Czech Republic have won the formerly named Fed Cup six times since 2011 and are the fourth seeded side in the tournament.

The Czech side will be made up of Markéta Vondroušová, Tereza Martincová, Karolína Muchová and doubles number one Kateřina Siniaková.

Raducanu’s last outing was last weekend at the Indian Wells Masters. After beating France’s Caroline Garcia 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in her first match, she was knocked out by Petra Martić of Croatia in the round of 32.
