Emma Raducanu to face huge ranking drop after US Open exit
Emma Raducanu will face a huge ranking drop following her first-round exit at this year’s US Open.
The teenager claimed her maiden Grand Slam title in New York last year –– becoming the new British number one in the process.
Earlier this season, Raducanu climbed into the world’s top 10 for the first time and reached a career-high of 10th back in July.
However, her straight sets defeat to Alize Cornet at Flushing Meadows means she will lose 2030 ranking points, which will demote her to around 80th when the rankings are updated.
It was always going to be a tough ask for the Brit to match her heroics from last year, having won the tournament as a qualifier.Raducanu has struggled throughout her first full season on the WTA Tour and has not reached beyond the quarter-finals of any event.
Against Cornet, the Brit was competitive in both sets but struggled to hold her serve and was broken seven times in total.
She gave us a historic run last summer.See you soon, @EmmaRaducanu
