Emma Raducanu teases Andy Murray partnership at Wimbledon

Emma Raducanu has teased a potential doubles partnership with Andy Murray at Wimbledon. 

Raducanu has stressed on multiple occasions that her dream partner would be Murray and it appears the teenager may be teaming up with the three-time major champion in the not too distant future. 

In an interview with the BBC ahead of competing at this week’s Nottingham Open, the US Open champion opened up about playing alongside Murray, as well as how she’s dealing with her first full year on the WTA Tour. 

Raducanu shot to fame after becoming the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam title. The 19-year-old triumphed in New York without dropping a set and subsequently assumed her status as the number one ranked British female in the world. 

Meanwhile, Murray is a two-time Wimbledon winner and widely regarded as one of the best male tennis players of this generation. 

A partnership between the pair would no doubt provide box-office entertainment and is something all British tennis fans are desperate to see. 

Murray formerly partnered Serena Williams in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon in 2019, but lost in the round of 16. 

Speaking about a partnership with the British tennis icon, Raducanu said: “We haven’t actually spoken about it but it’s something we feel we both want to do.

“I’m not sure if this is going to be the year but hopefully it will happen.”

When asked how soon is soon, the Brit joked: “Soonish.” 

Despite winning the US Open last year, it has been far from plain sailing for Raducanu. 

At Wimbledon last year, the Brit suffered breathing difficulties and was forced to retire. 

And since claiming her first Grand Slam title, the teenager has not reached beyond the quarter-final of any tournament.
