Emma Raducanu: Cam Norrie wants Brit to “embrace” Wimbledon attention

British tennis star Cameron Norrie wants his compatriot Emma Raducanu to “embrace” her return to Wimbledon this year. 

Raducanu is the reigning US Open champion and became the first qualifier to ever win a Grand Slam last year. 

But she has endured a tough first full season on the WTA –– suffering defeats in the second round of both majors so far. 

Nonetheless, Raducanu will be the highest ranked British woman in this year’s Wimbledon draw and Norrie believes she should relish the spotlight. 

Norrie, who is ranked 11th in the world right now, thinks Raducanu will be the centre of attention at the All England Club. 

“She has had a lot of attention after the US Open – I don’t think it will be any easier around Wimbledon,” he said.

“Hopefully she will go and embrace it. She knows exactly how much attention she will get. It will be even more.

“She needs to keep her head down, keep enjoying the tennis. I’m sure she is looking forward to the grass. I think it is one of her best surfaces as well. It will be a lot of fun.”

Norrie has stressed that the 19-year-old is incredibly mature for a teenager and that she is more than capable of doing well at Wimbledon this year. 

The 19-year-old reached the fourth round last year, before retiring with breathing difficulties against Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic. 

“At 19, I was doing different stuff than she is now,” he said. “She is having to deal with a lot more pressurised situations and bigger moments than I was at the same age.” 

Norrie reached a career high of 10th in the rankings in April and is the highest ranked British male in the world. 

He reached the third round of this year’s French Open, but lost to Karen Khachanov in four sets. 

The Brit has never reached beyond the third
