Emlyn Mulligan calls time on Leitrim career

Emlyn Mulligan has announced his retirement from playing with the Leitrim senior footballers after 17 years.

The 35-year-old forward made his debut in the 2006 Allianz Football League and was captain when the county won the FBD Insurance League for the first time in 2013.

Mulligan was on the scoresheet for Connacht when they won the Inter-provincial championship for the first time in 45 years in 2014.

The forward suffered a third cruciate ligament injury in 2017 and stepped away from the panel after 2019 -Letrim's Division 4 final loss to Derry was his first game at Croke Park - but made a surprise return under new manager Andy Moran last year.

Mulligan made several substitute appearances in 2022, including his 100th for the county, which came against Sligo in March.

He scored a point in his final championship game, the Tailteann Cup quarter-final extra-time defeat to the Yeats County.
