Emily in Paris explained: Why does Sylvie hate Louis de Leon?

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Emily in Paris season four part one

Emily in Paris is back with a brand new season. The first half of the hit Netflix drama dropped on Thursday (August 15), with five more episodes on the way next month (Thursday September 12).

Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) is back, navigating her awkward love triangle with Brit Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) and chef Gabriel (Lucas Bravo). The American marketing guru and her boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), as well as colleagues Luc (Bruno Gouery) and Julien (Samuel Arnold) also return.

Sylvie's storyline with former boss Louis de Leon (Pierre Deny) has been particularly prominent. She finally speaks out against her former boss when a journalist contacts her about allegations against him - putting her business at risk.

We first meet Louis in season three and learn that he abused his power, sleeping with Sylvie in exchange for promotion. In season four, a journalist contacts Sylvie and while Mindy (Ashley Park) is dating his son Nicolas (Paul Forman), she also learns of his shady past.

Mindy was looking around his father's clothes closet at work, in heaven while picking out her free clothing. That was, until workers warned her to not be alone with Louis in there.

There were many reasons why Sylvie hesitated before participating in a journalist’s exposé. Actress Leroy-Beaulieu told Netflix Tudum: “First of all, she thinks she’s going to jeopardize her husband’s project. She doesn’t want to do that.

"Also, it’s an old story that she kind of buried in her subconscious that she doesn’t want to bring up because it is obviously painful. She knows the moment she’s going to talk about it, pain is going to come back.”
