Emiliano Martinez explains what Manchester United fans said to cue infamous Old Trafford dance

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has explained exactly why he danced in front of the Manchester United fans at Old Trafford.

Back in September, Martinez was spotted taunting the United fans after Bruno Fernandes missed a last minute penalty in front of the Stretford End that would have levelled the scores. Just five minutes earlier Villa had taken a 1-0 lead thanks to a Kourtney Hause header.

The missed penalty proved costly as Villa secured the three points. Martinez rubbed salt into the wounds of the United fans behind the goal by dancing in front of them in celebration.

Now, speaking on the incident for the first time, the former Arsenal man spoke to Ben Foster on Amazon Prime Video Sport about the infamous moment. He said: "The fact I danced in front of the crowd at Man United was because I could hear people insulting me all throughout the game.

"When they missed a penalty, I remembered all the s*** they were talking about me."

Fernandes would gain a measure of revenge on Martinez in January at Villa Park. The Portuguese midfielder scored twice, including a strike that saw the ball slip through the hands of the Argentinian keeper.

Sadly for United it was Villa and Martinez who would have the last laugh again. Jacob Ramsey and Philippe Coutinho both scored within four minutes of one another to ensure that the points were shared in that thrilling 2-2 draw in the midlands.
