Emi Martinez celebrates with trophy after national team win
Emi Martinez was named Man of the Match in Argentina’s 1-0 win over Colombia on Tuesday and celebrated the World Cup qualifier victory by holding aloft the Copa America trophy.
Argentina beat Brazil 1-0 in the final to win the Copa America in July and Martinez is still enjoying being a champion. He posted a picture of himself with the trophy on his Instagram account with the caption: “For all my life, I will never get tired of raising it.”
Martinez has made 16 appearances for the national team, conceding only five goals and keeping 11 clean sheets. The 29-year-old hasn’t been on the losing team in any of the 16 games and has shipped just one goal in his last seven outings.
He’s one of the best goalkeepers in Argentina’s history and certainly one of the best of Villa’s. At club level, Martinez has played in 21 games across the board, conceding 30 goals with six clean sheets. Few could blame him for celebrating the best moment of his career while on international duty, which is why his posts get a lot of positive reaction from teammates and friends.
When Martinez returns to Bodymoor Heath, he’ll be getting ready to face Leeds United at Villa Park on Wednesday, February 9.
