Elliot Anderson is Hearts transfer 'target' with Newcastle United man open to loan move

Elliot Anderson has emerged as a potential transfer option for Hearts.

The Newcastle starlet spent last season on loan at Bristol Rovers, scoring eight times in 21 appearances as Joey Barton’s side secured a dramatic final day promotion to League One. A number of clubs are chasing the frontman for this season, including Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday.

And the Jambos are amongst the throng who are interested in securing his services, according to Football Scotland. Robbie Neilson is keen to increase the firepower available to him as Hearts gear up for a crack at the Europa League group stages.

Liam Boyce is the only senior striker currently on the books, with Euan Henderson to remain in Gorgie until at least January as back-up. Ellis Simms has returned to Everton after a successful six-month loan last term. Neilson is keen to bring him back, but admits chances are slim given the interest from bigger clubs.

And he could yet return to the Premier League loan market. Anderson is currently with the Newcastle first team squad on their pre-season tour of Austria. He's desperate for the chance to impress Eddie Howe and force his way into the matchday squad on a regular basis.

But the 19-year-old, who has represented Scotland at Under 21 level, is open to another loan move. He’s keen to gain more niche match experience, which could work in Hearts’ favour given they are guaranteed European group stage football until at least November.
