Elland Road transfer news: Journalist says Leeds are interested in signing Djed Spence

Transfer insider Dean Jones has revealed that Leeds are in the race to sign Djed Spence, who he thinks would fit in “perfectly” at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa wasn’t able to make any January signings, although he was keen on bringing in the young right-back.

The 21-year-old has been gaining attention in recent weeks for his outstanding performances during Nottingham Forest’s FA Cup run. Spence was the standout player in the win over Arsenal before he went one better and scored against Leicester last time out to set up a fifth-round clash with Huddersfield.

But even before his fine goal against Foxes, the right-back has already been tracked by the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal, who were interested in signing him in January.

Spence, who was described as “absolutely brilliant” by Gary Lineker, wouldn’t have been able to play for a third team this season having already turned out for his parent club Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest, but a Premier League move looks a real possibility ahead of the summer.

According to Sky Sports, Leeds were the third top-flight club in the running for his signature, with Luke Ayling, who’s missed several games this season, their only other senior right-back option.

Therefore, while Jones recognises that signing for a club likely to be playing in Europe could be more appealing to Spence, the journalist reckons that a move to Elland Road would be the perfect fit.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Leeds was the other club I was told, so someone like Leeds, he fits in perfectly, but it comes down to the player and how he sees his ambition.”

If Spence isn’t set to be first-choice at Leeds, it would appear pretty unlikely that he ends up signing for the Yorkshire giants.
