Elkann sets expectations high for Ferrari F1-75

Ferrari chairman John Elkann has made it perfectly clear he expects the Scuderia to be back in the Formula 1 winner’s circle this season.

Sebastian Vettel’s triumph at the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix, straight after his then team-mate Charles Leclerc’s back-to-back double success in Belgium and Italy, was the last time Ferrari tasted victory.

Since then, initially not helped by an FIA technical directive regarding engines, Ferrari have drawn a depressing blank, finishing a poor sixth in the 2020 Constructors’ Championship and a much improved third last year.

But now they look to be very much back on the up and the F1-75, created in accordance with the new regulations, could be the car that puts them in P1 again – some pundits tipping Ferrari for big things during 2022.

Elkann, the numero uno at Ferrari and the Stellantis corporation, certainly sees race wins as an achievable target for Leclerc, Carlos Sainz and team principal Mattia Binotto in order to avoid a third consecutive full campaign for the Scuderia without any.
