EK Athletics Club achieve best Scottish Road Relay finish in nearly 40 years

East Kilbride Athletic Club’s men’s team finished eighth at the Scottish Road Relay Championships in Livingston recently – recording the club’s best placing since 1986.

The team consisting of Jack Kirwan (17.05), Daryl Reid (28.54), Euan Rose (18.31), Grant Baillie (30.07), Lu Mark (17.35) and David Ross (33.09) produced a strong showing and their effort is also the club’s fifth-best ever in the race.

Grant Baillie ran the second-fastest time for a master.

The men also had a ‘B’ team with one runner, Gordon Colvin, finishing in 22.26.

East Kilbride’s women’s team narrowly missed out on a top-20 placing.

The team consisted of Emma Livingston (23.42), Gemma Kirwan (45.29), Rachael Williams (23.29), and Vivien Thorpe (43.23).

East Kilbride AC also had a record three athletes taking part in the SIAB Cross Country Championships at Sefton Park in Liverpool.

Angus Wilkinson finished second in the under-15 boys’ 4.1k race to take home a silver medal.

He also led the Scottish team to the silver medals.

Jamie Connor finished eighth in the under-17 men’s 6.2k race, helping Scotland to a team silver – an incredible feat because two days before the race he had been preparing for the 4x1500m relay.

His team scored the best points total for a Scottish side in the last 18 years, finishing only seven seconds behind England.

Finally, Matilda Frew finished 18th on her Scottish international debut, and this was the third counter for a Scottish team that narrowly missed out on a medal.
