Eimear Considine set for Ireland return after Méabh Deely injury

Munster full-back Eimear Considine has been called up to the Ireland squad ahead of next week's Test with Australia in Belfast.

The 33-year-old is drafted into Scott Bemand’s 35-player camp this week after Connacht’s Méabh Deely was ruled out of the game with the Wallaroos on Saturday, 14 September, after suffering an ankle injury in her side's Interpro win against Ulster at the weekend.

Considine, who has won 26 caps, hasn’t been involved with Ireland since April 2022, but is an experienced option for Bemand to draw from.

The UL Bohs woman didn’t feature for Ireland in the 2023 Six Nations due to the birth of her first child early that year, while she has only recently returned to action following an anterior cruciate ligament injury which she picked up ten months ago.

Considine made her comeback from that injury layoff in Munster’s final round-robin game of the Interpro championship against Connacht two weeks ago, while she also featured off the bench in last weekend’s final against Leinster.

As well as Deely, Munster’s Jane Clohessy has also left the Irish camp due to injury.

The back-row, who is the daughter of former Munster and Ireland prop Peter Clohessy, had been one of six additional training panelists to compliment the 35-player squad, however a knee injury has ended her camp.
