Eight people rescued as upstairs floor of London bar collapses

Eight people were rescued after the mezzanine floor of a bar in East London collapsed.

Emergency services attended the incident at Two More Years in Hackney Wick on Saturday night, the Mirror reports.

A man who was in the bar at the time said the mezzanine floor 'came down in seconds'.

He added: "There was just this sort of cracking sort of noise and dust started coming down.

"Me and my friend just ran to the side and the whole thing just came down in a matter of seconds."

He added it was lucky that there were not more people sitting directly under the mezzanine floor that came down.

The witness said he had seen one person being brought out on a stretcher and put into an ambulance, but most of the injured appeared to have cuts and bruises rather than anything serious.

London Fire Brigade said eight people were rescued by crews inside the wreckage, with some people rushed to hospital and others treated at the scene.

Another bar goer tweeted: "0/10 would not recommend being on the second floor of a bar when it collapses.

"I’m very much OK (as is everyone who was in the building from what I know), but that was terrifying."

Station Commander Sacha Clement, who is at the scene, said: "Firefighters have carried out a systematic search of the building and rescued eight people from inside.

"They were trapped on the remaining part of the mezzanine floor and crews used a ladder to bridge between the floor and the internal staircase to get them safely out of the building.
