Egypt, Ghana, six others to feature in Yucateco Boxing League Season 11

Organisers of Yucateco Boxing League Season 2 have disclosed that the second edition of the championship would feature teams from such notable boxing countries as South Africa, Egypt, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Guinea, Cameroon, and Benin Republic, among others.

Yucateco Boxing League featured a women’s invitational championship as part of the event at the just-concluded maiden edition in Lagos.
The outstanding women boxers were picked from various boxing clubs, who participatedin the maiden Yucateco Boxing League.

Speaking on the grassroots project, Technical Director, Yucateco Boxing League, Babatunde Laguda, said the initiative is aimed at discovering young female boxers for the country. He said: “We hope to build on the successes recorded in this edition. We saw some of these girls at the boxing league and we thought it wise to give them a more centred platform to express themselves, we have seen several talented boxers from this event and I must tell you the future is very bright for these girls.”

Also speaking on the project, Yucateco Boxing Promotions CEO,Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, said he hopes to encourage more women’s participation in the second edition of the league, scheduled for the second quarter of 2024.

“What we have done is a qualification championship for these young female pugilists to grab a ticket to compete in season two of the Yucateco Boxing League, which has helped us discover those good enough to compete at the league level in May.”
