Eguavoen still hurts from Eagles’ failure to qualify for Qatar 2022

Former Super Eagles Coach and Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen, has declared his commitment to the national team and the NFF’s programme aimed at revamping  the team to ensure it never misses another FIFA World Cup or any other international championship.

Eguavoen, who disclosed that he is still hurting from Nigeria’s inability to qualify for the ongoing World Cup in Qatar, said a lot still needs to be done to discover more talents at the grassroots in the bid to reposition the national team.

“It is quite unfortunate Nigeria is not in Qatar and I am not happy about it. My heart breaks whenever I remember the country is not at the World Cup in Qatar.

“I am still sorry for the Super Eagles failure to book the Qatar 2022 World Cup ticket.

“Now, I am working closely with the new NFF board to raise the standard of the Super Eagles so that the country never misses the World Cup again.

“As the NFF technical director, we are putting modalities in place to ensure the Eagles qualify for every international engagements. “Part of the plans for the success of the team is to put viable structures for more young talents to be discovered that would mature to play in the Super Eagles. This is why we are  focused on the  U-17 and U-20 teams to also produce talents.”

He promised to support the youth teams’ coaches to unearth talented players for the country, adding that winning junior tournaments should not always be the nation’s target.
