Egan-Simmons takes sixth in 5000m sprint single final
Jenny Egan-Simmons claimed a sixth-place finish in the canoe sprint single 5000m final on the final day of the European Championships in Munich.
The Dubliner missed an early break and fell adrift of the top five competitors in the event that was rearranged from Saturday, but held off the challenge of Sweden's Rebecka Georgsdotter to take sixth in a time of 23:32.833.
Egan-Simmons, a silver (2021) and bronze (2020) medalist at the world championships in the same distance, finished 37 seconds behind winner world champion Emese Kohlami of Hungary.
There was a photo finish for silver, with Italy’s Susanna Cicali edging out Spain’s Eva Barrios by six-hundredths of a second.
