EFL perspective on fresh Derby County takeover claim emerges

The EFL have yet to be informed of any change in the situation regarding Derby County’s search for a new owner, the BBC’s Simon Stone has reported.

The Rams are continuing to search for an owner after being plunged into administration earlier this season, leaving them staring down the barrel of relegation from the Championship, and potentially worse.

However, reports from The Sun on Monday night had offered some hope for Derby, revealing that American businessman Chris Kirchner was set to be named as the preferred bidder to buy the Pride Park club, having returned to make a fresh attempt to purchase the Rams.

It is thought that Kirchner will attempt to rush through a deal to buy the club, but that due to the fact that a deal would see creditors paid less than 25p in the pound, Derby would incur a further 15-point penalty this season, guaranteeing relegation to League One.

That though, would mean the Rams start next season without any penalties hanging over them in the third-tier.

But it appears that there may still be some way to go before that is all agreed, including this proposal being made to the EFL.

According to Stone’s latest update, the Football League have yet to be informed of any change to the situation at Derby, suggesting they have not yet been told of any intent to make Kirchner the preferred bidder.

Instead, there is set to be a board meeting on Thursday, where the situation surrounding Derby will no doubt be on the agenda.
