Edo Queens depart for Morocco today ahead of opening game

The Edo Queens delegation to the 2024 Confederation of AFrican Football (CAF) Women’s Champions League will depart Nigeria for Morocco today aboard an Air Maroc flight.

The team, led by the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Yusuf Alli, will arrive in Lagos this morning from where they will embark on the six-hour journey to Morocco.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, Alli said that the team is fired up for success, adding that everything needed for a successful campaign have been provided for the girls.

The 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League will kick off on Saturday with DR Congo’s TP Mazembe ladies tackling South Africa’s University of the Western Cape FC. Edo Queens will enter the fray on Sunday against Ethiopia’s CBC FC by 7.00 p.m.

Edo Queens, who qualified for the final as champions of WAFU B, are grouped with defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa, FC Masar of Egypt, and CBC FC of Ethiopia.

Their second game in the championhip is against FC Masar on November 13 before meeting defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, on November 16.
