Edinburgh coach on Stormers' URC chances: 'When they spark up, they can beat anyone'

In their 28-17 United Rugby Championship (URC) quarter-final victory over Edinburgh at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening, there were moments when the Stormers once again showed their undoubted attacking flair.

With Warrick Gelant pulling the strings, the Stormers' backs were a threat whenever they touched the ball, and they were aided by a mobile pack with Evan Roos at his rampaging best.

It' something that Edinburgh coach Mike Blair noted after the game, and he believes that the Stormers class of 2022 could go all the way in the competition.

Blair said that to his mind, the Stormers are perhaps the most dangerous team in the URC when they get things right.

"They string things together, and when they do, I don't think there's a more dangerous team in terms of individuals," Blair said.

"When they spark up, and it connects, they can beat anyone."

Blair was also full of praise for what the teams from South Africa have brought to the competition.

After a shaky start, the Bulls, Sharks and Stormers made it to the playoffs, with the Stormers ending second on the log.

The Lions weren't far off a chance at the playoffs either.

Blair believes that the South African teams not only provide a different challenge than what the European teams are used to, but they bring quality as well.

"I think they have been brilliant for the tournament," said Blair.

"Each South African team brings a different quality and a different challenge. It doesn't make it any easier though."
