Edel McMahon: Twickenham pain can drive Ireland on against Scotland

Ireland captain Edel McMahon believes her side will be able to move on quickly from their 14-try defeat to England on Saturday.

The Red Roses claimed an 88-10 victory as the visitors wilted early and failed to fire any shots of note.

Their 10 points, from a penalty and a penalty try, was little consolation even if it was their first score against England in four meetings.

Scott Bemand's side are in fifth place in the Guinness Six Nations table and a win against Scotland next Saturday in Belfast (2.30pm) could see them finish in third.

"How we approach each game each week is the same," said McMahon, who won her 27th cap at Twickenham.

"We go after the same process. Last week (against Wales) we got the win and enjoyed the occasion, but how we hit the ground running, go in on Monday, is the exact same as the two losses, against France and Italy.

"We go in with the same application, we enjoy the occasion, and we go after the same each week.

"I don’t think (the manner of the loss) will affect (the week), if anything people will want to go after things that we let happen today and we want to fix that."

England scored after just seven minutes with Ellie Kildunne (above) and Abby Dow both claiming hat-tricks among the 14 touchdowns.

The tries came too easy from an Irish point of view with a count of 61 missed tackles standing out.

"We came into the game quite ambitious to go at England," added the Exeter Chiefs back row.

"Those momentum swings probably caught us off guard a bit but we finished the game out to the end, heads didn’t go down.

"There were times on the pitch where the comms were hard to hear, in set-piece. England had the bounce of the ball and the crisp pass, they beat us on the edge."
